Role of Co-Curricular Activities in Shaping An Individual’s Behavior

Introduction:

A Co-curricular activity refers to the programs and learning experiences that complement a school in any manner.  These activities are defined typically according to the various academic courses.



·       As a result, co-curricular activities are an important part of school education. It plays an important role.

·       It gives the students an opportunity to develop particular skills and non-academic abilities.

·       They eventually groom the personality of the students.
·       And the students gain a lot through their practical experiences.

·       A Co-curricular activity refers to not only the activities that are academic in nature but also the learning experiences of each student in a school.

·       They are totally complementary to what the children learn in the school.
·       Whereas, the knowledge, activities that children learn at school are defined in the form of co-curricular activities.

·       Here, in the context, co-curricular & extra co-curricular are both different from each other.

Extra co-curricular activities refer to the way defined away from academics. Examples: sports like hockey, long distance running etc,
a)    And the other outdoor & indoor activities.
b)   They also give importance to physical fitness training activities like aerobics, swimming, gymnastics etc.

c)    Participating in all these activities gives a chance to develop one’s- self in terms of physical health and overall maintain their health.

d)   Maintaining a good health is also a part of co-curricular activities.

e)    In the aspect of academics, co-curricular activities favor the growth of good health & strengthen an individual.

f)     In terms of schools, the activities are divided according to the ways; it should be assessed and followed.

Whereas, the activities work for hand –to hand in relation to the sports games and various other exercises and experiencing fun along with games.

Co-curricular activities have a great source of developing student’s interest in studies, classrooms, and daily routine of schools. It nurtures the student’s ability in co-operation, coordination, organization, and leads towards leadership goals.

These activities prepare a child for facing future challenges in life.
The role of co-curricular activities enhances the inner confidence in the child. It also enhances social interaction and self-discipline in the child.

Through co-curricular activities, students can learn new things, improve their communication skills, and increase their stamina level.

Games and sports activities help them to maintain fitness and be energetic always. The teacher and the students both must be participative in taking part in co-curricular activities.

·       The brain needs more energy when focusing on a specific task , students in general are exposed to logical thinking during their studies , which is processed by the left side of the brain.

·       A well known fact is that muscle is built with vigorous activities, these activities can build the potential for the body to sustain longer periods of work, it can lead to a healthier mind for example, and outdoor activities expose the mind to a different environment.
·       In other words, it may improve the state of mind to multiple scenario’s and also broaden the scope of thinking because various activities may expose mind , as result , it can help them to prevent a dull state of thinking.
·       Exercise teaches student to channel emotions into productive activities, with stressful conditions and pressure arising from studies need a healthy way of discharging these emotions.
·       For examples problems faced by studies, it can be overcome by the activities that they have experienced and learned from curriculum.
·       Moreover , emotionally it may help students releasing their tension by making new friends, they also can share their problem.
·       Learn how to overcome it learn how to socialize and learn to be more confident, activities that they joined do not serve as a temporary distraction for emotional problems.
·        It gives a total solution for an emotional problem because curriculum can help divert a student from his harmful state.
·       It can help to raise self-motivation, such as self-expression, self-confidence, and self-esteem.
·       Students are in an environment where they can convey their views freely.
·       Co-curricular activities also encourage students to speak up on a particular topic.

·       It also creates self-confidence among students because it can teach students to differentiate between right and wrong.
